Listen To London - Just superb - December 18, 2008

For Those that attended the 'Listen To London' film premier event at Komedia in Brighton last Saturday they must have wondered how such an intriguing film could have been lost for over 25 years. The documentary made in 1981, depicts music making in it's rawest state, bands that were on the lower rungs of their careers, are captured, rehearsing, recording, composing and performing in the clubs and bars of London. Some went on to stardom but many disappeared. The Thompson Twins are the most notable successes, but others such as New Music also made their mark. Among the bands featured are The Papers, who are still around. They played an amazing set of original material at the Coalition Club in the evening. Many questions still resound from the panel discussion, with valuable insights from Charlie Gillet, Geoff Martin and John Fitzsimons, as well as the two film makers, Des Horsfield and Steve Sattler, who should be very pleased that their speculative documentary made in a rush all those years ago has stood the test of time and has become a milestone in music history.

Still regenerating - August 19, 2008

Well like all great projects the first time around doesn't allways work so well. So we now have a new bass player Tom Staniford - but no singer. The film re launch is a few months away so the old band - well John and Harry will be taking to the stage again - along with the new drummer (Ben) and guitarist (Louis) - keep watching and wondering.

The Papers regeneration - January 7, 2008

Fans will know that The Papers music is as hot and current now as it was when the band was big in the early 80's. Late in 2007 we started advertising for young new musicians to keep the message alive today.

So far we have found a great lead singer/guitarist – Oliver Barron, a drummer - Ben Priest and a lead guitarist Will Berkly-Smith. So the new band is taking shape. Next step will be to find a bass player early in 2008. After that: rehearse, record, promote.
